Biosciences Educational Policy
Cameron Roots is a Bioeconomy Policy Intern with the Federation of American Scientists. His primary policy interests are in the bioeconomy and biosecurity, including how they intersect with other spaces such as healthcare and AI. He received a Graduate Archer Fellowship for Summer 2023 to develop policy supporting widespread adoption of synthetic biology derived technologies.
Cameron is currently a Ph.D. candidate in biochemistry at The University of Texas at Austin, where his research focuses on how engineered biological systems can fail. As the president of his program’s student association, Cameron also represents his community to the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Program Executive Committee in deliberating program policy.
Prior to graduate school, Cameron received his B.S. in Biochemistry and in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Washington and completed a postbaccalaureate study as an Intramural Research Trainee Award Fellow at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
